MOTHER OF STARS
addresses a miscarriage and self-perception as a woman. Miscarriages are still a major taboo subject today, and those affected are often confronted with blame or silence.
„I perceived my miscarriage as something natural. What I found shocking, however, was society‘s inability to deal with this topic openly.
Most irritating was people‘s silence.
As a pregnant woman, I felt treated like a saint, and after the miscarriage, like a leper.
Our society still has a lot of catching up to do in this regard. In El Salvador, women who have a miscarriage can end up in prison for up to 30 years, as the law considers it murder.
If this is the world we live in today as women, then I see it as my obligation as an artist to place a strong emphasis on women-specific issues in my art.“
